henri matisse was a leader in the fauvist movement and known for his use of vibrant color. he and picasso had an ongoing feud, and matisse called their relationship a “boxing match”. later in life, he found himself wheelchair bound and unable to stand at an easel. he then began “painting with scissors” - these pieces are the blocked colorful prints you see all over etsy!
